Graves’ disease is an autoimmune condition in which the immune system produces antibodies that overstimulate the thyroid gland, leading to an overproduction of thyroid hormone, known as hyperthyroidism. It is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism, and while it shares an autoimmune basis with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, the two conditions produce opposite effects on thyroid hormone output.
As a Graves’ disease naturopath and nutritionist clinic, our aim is to work alongside your endocrinologist to help calm the underlying autoimmune activity and support your body through the physical demands of an overactive thyroid.
If you are unsure whether your thyroid symptoms fit an underactive or overactive pattern, our Hashimoto’s page covers the opposite end of autoimmune thyroid disease, and our thyroid and weight page covers the broader metabolic picture. To understand our clinical framework for autoimmune conditions generally, visit our autoimmune hub or our earlier article on reversing autoimmunity naturally.
