Psoriatic Arthritis Naturopath

Psoriatic arthritis is an autoimmune condition in which the immune system attacks the joints in people who have, or are prone to, psoriasis. It causes joint pain, stiffness, and swelling, and can also affect the nails and the entheses, the points where tendons and ligaments attach to bone. It frequently develops years after skin symptoms first appear, though for some people joint symptoms come first.

As a psoriatic arthritis naturopath and nutritionist clinic, we focus on reducing the shared inflammatory and autoimmune drivers behind both the skin and joint symptoms.

Common Symptoms of Psoriatic Arthritis

  • Joint pain, swelling, and stiffness, often asymmetrical
  • Swollen fingers or toes, sometimes described as sausage-like (dactylitis)
  • Nail changes, including pitting and separation from the nail bed
  • Lower back pain, if the spine is involved
  • Fatigue
  • Psoriasis skin patches, though not everyone with psoriatic arthritis has visible skin symptoms at the same time

Our Naturopathic Approach to Psoriatic Arthritis

  • Gut health. Gut dysbiosis and intestinal permeability are increasingly linked to both psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Read more about our approach to digestive health.
  • Anti-inflammatory nutrition. A whole food, anti-inflammatory diet can meaningfully reduce both joint and skin inflammation over time.
  • Targeted herbal and nutritional medicine. Compounds such as curcumin and omega-3 fish oil have a growing evidence base for reducing joint inflammation.
  • Weight and metabolic health. Excess weight increases inflammatory load and mechanical stress on affected joints, so this is often a genuine treatment lever.
  • Stress and nervous system support. Chronic stress is a well-documented trigger for both psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis flares. Supporting the nervous system is a real part of disease management.

Functional Testing We May Recommend

  • Inflammatory markers such as CRP and ESR
  • Comprehensive gut microbiome and stool testing
  • Food sensitivity testing
  • Nutrient status, including vitamin D
