Sjogren’s Syndrome Naturopath

Sjogren’s syndrome is an autoimmune condition in which the immune system attacks the glands responsible for producing moisture, most commonly the salivary and tear glands, leading to persistent dry mouth and dry eyes. It can occur on its own or alongside other autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus, and its effects often extend well beyond dryness alone.

As a Sjogren’s syndrome naturopath and nutritionist clinic, our role is to support the underlying immune dysregulation and help manage the wider fatigue, joint pain, and digestive symptoms that frequently accompany this condition.

Common Symptoms of Sjogren’s Syndrome

  • Persistent dry mouth and difficulty swallowing
  • Dry, gritty, or burning eyes
  • Fatigue
  • Joint pain and stiffness
  • Dry skin
  • Digestive symptoms, including reflux and bloating
  • Swollen salivary glands, in some cases

Our Naturopathic Approach to Sjogren’s Syndrome

  • Gut health. Digestive symptoms are common in Sjogren’s syndrome, and supporting gut integrity and microbiome balance can help reduce overall inflammatory load. Read more about our approach to digestive health.
  • Anti-inflammatory nutrition. A nutrient-dense, anti-inflammatory diet to help reduce systemic inflammation and support tissue health.
  • Nutrient support. Omega-3 fatty acids in particular have research supporting a role in supporting tear and saliva production.
  • Stress and nervous system support. Chronic stress places additional burden on an already dysregulated immune system, making nervous system support a genuine part of management.
  • Identifying co-occurring conditions. Sjogren’s frequently overlaps with other autoimmune conditions, so a thorough assessment often looks beyond the primary diagnosis.

Functional Testing We May Recommend

  • Inflammatory marker testing
  • Comprehensive gut microbiome and stool testing
  • Nutrient status testing, including omega-3 index and vitamin D
  • Food sensitivity testing
